Small Wind Turbine

Wind Turbine Designs

Technology related to small wind turbines has come a long way from the first time it was invented in 1888. However the basic technology remains the same. The turbines consist of a rotor that converts the wind’s energy into the kinetic energy. This kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy and gets stored in the batteries. The rotors are the ones that capture the wind. Therefore the rotor size matters a lot and it should be big.

The new improved designs of the airfoils have increased the effectiveness of the wind speed by as much as 35%. The original wooden blades have given way to the GRPs and PVC sheet blades. These have reduced the maintenance problems. There is no rust and wear and tear is less. The blades have been crafted in better ways so as to reduce the noise production.

The permanent magnet alternators have been coupled with the urbane controls and inverters that have specially been designed for the small wind turbines. The alternator effectiveness has been enhanced by 25% over the previous ones. Hence over all the wind turbines have been crafted in a way that they can produce more electricity even when the flow of wind is less.

The small wind turbines will do well if they are properly installed and taken care of. There will be an abundant flow of renewable energy if maintenance is proper. With an increasing consumer demand, there is a lot of buoyancy in this market of small wind sector. The market is emerging and there is tremendous scope. The cost of the grid energy keeps going north with each year that comes. If this keeps happening, then the market of small wind turbines will explode.

New and innovative technologies are being introduced all the time. The market is surely becoming exciting.

Before you venture into buying a small wind turbine, take a look at the following aspects:

• The warranty cover.
• See if the warranty covers the wind turbine for at least 5 years. If it doesn’t, then the manufacturer is not reliable.
• Take time to browse through the exclusions and the restrictions (zonal). It is a good idea if you remain within the limits of the restrictions. No body wants to have unwarranted problems.
• Look for the feature in the warranty that says that it can be transferred to some other home proprietor
