Micro Wind Turbine

Wind Turbine Designs

Various countries have been using the micro wind turbine to alleviate the problem of unstable dependence on hydropower. Micro wind turbine was developed by Stel Walker and Tom Zambrano. This relatively new invention has revolutionized the world of energy research. These turbines can be mounted in rows over the building rooftops to generate ‘green’ electricity. This invention has helped population living in the urban areas by enabling effective power generation. Both the urban and the suburban settings can install these turbines. Basically now you can think of an alternate to the traditional huge wind turbines.

The micro wind turbine unites the aerodynamics, architectural and the mechanical engineering principals to gather more wind from the surrounding space. This, despite the fact that in urban areas the wind is broken by the trees and the concrete structures. More energy is created by the turbines. When wind comes in contact with any object in its path, the velocity of wind becomes higher. Thus, when the wind flows through the turbines on the roof top, the velocity increases. The micro wind turbine has been designed specifically for installation on the existing architectural properties.

These turbines are about 4 feet tall. Initially you can get about 10 wind turbines installed on your roof top. However if you are comfortable with the existing ones, you can increase the number. Depending upon the power usage of the homes and the commercial buildings, the quantity of the wind turbines can be determined. In large buildings around 100 turbines can be fitted.

The green electricity is gaining popularity each day. The commercial building owners and the residential complex owners want to show that they are employing the new technology which is environment friendly.

Also, over the period of decades the researchers at the Hong-Kong University have developed a micro wind turbine technology. These can be used both for the urban and rural purposes. The manufactured turbines are light, compact and can generate power from as low a wind-speed as 2 m/s. The turbines look like gears and around 8 of them can be utilized at a time. The wind turbines are not noisy and are almost near silent when spinning. It changes the direction of spinning according to the wind movement automatically. It is operational in rough conditions also. These can produce AC electrical power directly from the wind.

The power generated by the micro wind turbines does not pollute the environment.
